Escape Room

Escape TTS: Newsbreak

In light of Covid and a time of zoom theatre, I was given the opportunity to request funds to support any theatrically related project through my theatre program. I've been interested in escape rooms for some time, so this was my chance to create this experience. Looking to a few friends, the entirely student-run team for this project came together very quickly.

Due to Covid, we knew that participants couldn't be in a room together, but we also wanted this experience to be shared between friends. This brought us to our two-room solution. Soon a theme was picked and the living room and study came to life.

Following Covid guidelines, my team was able to provide an escape room for two participants per run. Each run was 45 minutes long with just over a 50% success rate. I was thrilled to organize this event as well as take on prop and game design for this escape room.

One of two rooms for the escape room. This was a highly decorated space to provide many distractions and areas to explore for the player. The room featured two locked pictures and a locked desk cabinet that held a locked briefcase.

Reset Key

With the run of the escape room lasting almost two weeks, I did not attend every run. As the designer of the puzzles, I provided a detailed reset key along with an emergency box that would be usable by any of our team members sitting in on a run.

Puzzle Flow Chart

In order to best share my ideas with my team, I created a flow chart that depicted how the puzzles interact with each other.

Idea Page

This is an organized idea page for puzzles. This includes many possible puzzles I could have used and was a starting point in this project. I used this page to create timelines for myself based on the amount of testing that would be required for puzzles, as well as ensuring a team effort in the escape room.
